The delicate dancing leaves of the willow tree cast a shadowy performance as you silently watch beneath its billowing curtains of lacey green. The soft tendrils of fresh grass make  for comfortable seating, as the breeze provides a noisy audience to this spectacle of summer. The lake, a gorgeous crystal plate reflecting the setting sun – the oranges, pinks, purples, and blues that reverberate this tangible beauty, as if one could pluck the colors from the sky like ripe Golden fruits, the sweet juice dripping down the corners of your smile. The clouds become your napkin, discretely soaking up the juice of the soft sunshine that has left you sticky with delight. Dipped toes leave ripples, summer love leaves heartbreaks, and tans slip away into memories.

At the start of my career, every modeling agency I ever worked with would always start out by telling me I needed to lose weight. Now being a healthy, confident woman with a pretty good level of self-awareness, I just never understood why this was such a standard, across-the-board demand from model agents to models. At first my response to this precarious demand was a simple smile, a nod and I just wouldn't think too much of it because, well, for starters I'm actually pretty thin! I was recently asked to speak at a young professionals’ group and give insight about serving on nonprofit boards.  While we hope that everyone who gets involved with a charity has some type of personal passion in the cause, there is also nothing wrong with using the opportunity to get business from it.  Let me be clear, getting business cannot be the only reason why you join a board – people will see right through it.  However, if you “do good,” we believe that you will “do well.”  So if you truly want to get business from your nonprofit board members, here’s what you should do.
